From the ferry terminal you can still take a tram on the tramway to the Heritage Centre.
A short distance away is The Priory and is the oldest building on Merseyside and dates back to King Edward 1st, when the monks would row across the river. Next door to the priory is the Cammell Laird shipyard where many famous ships were built. ( Picture )
In the docks you will find historic warships, HMS Plymouth, Submarine Onyx and the German U-Boat U534 and for more information on this click here:- Historic Warships but don't forget to come back again.
For a picturesque village on Wirral, there is none better than Port Sunlight, named after the famous Sunlight Soap made at the factory. The village was founded by William Hesketh Lever for the workers who made soap in his factory in 1888. Also in the village is the Lady Lever Art Gallery which houses sculptures, artefacts, Pre-Raphaelite paintings, fine porcelain and furniture. This small Gallery is well worth a visit.
